Colorado to Work With Department of Labor
This article from the Denver Post is intriguing. It says that the state of Colorado will "work with" the U.S. Department of Labor to "share information and coordinate more closely ... on the problem of worker classification." Tony Gagliardi of the National Federation of Independent Business shares the view that the current rules are confusing and not consistent among the different agencies, something I noted in this previous blog post.
The problem is, I'm not sure that "sharing information and coordinating more closely" will do anything to clear up the confusion or create consistency. Sounds to me more like the state will help the Department of Labor catch those who are classifying employees incorrectly, but won't really do anything to help the employers understand the classification rules.
